QR code research project on the South Downs

Strategic points in the National Park and South Downs Way will feature QR codes, mainly on waypost markers, at key points of interest across the South Downs, throughout June to August.

QR codes are likely to be located from the western end of the South Downs Way at Winchester Old Hill Fort, East Meon, Butser Hill, Harting Down, Graffham Down, Bignor Hill, Amberley and near Arundel, at a few other locations and points of interest throughout the South Downs National Park.

The South Downs National Trail

One of the 15 National Trails in England and Wales, the South Downs National Trail was also the first Bridleway National Trail in England. Stretching from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester in the West, through to the white chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head in the East, almost all of the South Downs National Trail is blissfully off-road.

There are loads of ways to explore - walking, cycling or horse riding across the Downs, up Beacon Hill or Ditchling Beacon, through ancient woods and wetland wildlife areas.

Recognised as an area of outstanding beauty, the South Downs is also home to a multitude of vibrant working communities steeped in history and traditional English culture, from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester in the west to the busy market town of Lewes in the east.
